A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
