Both Deceased Students Identified in the Ivy League School Incident as Police Continue Hunt for Killer.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in the weekend's violent attack on the university campus were being remembered Monday – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter continued following the discharge by Rhode Island officials of the only individual of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was called “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Birmingham's Cathedral Church of the Advent, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.

She served as second-in-command of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also posted sympathies online, remarking: “It's indescribable. Remembering her loved ones and companions, above all her mom and dad.”

An International Student

The other deceased individual was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his initial year at the prestigious university, family members said.

The victim's identification was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a online post.

What Happened

Nine other people were injured in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Law enforcement reported by the end of Sunday that a man aged 24 detained in a police operation at a hotel about around 27 kilometers from the scene earlier in the day was being released.

“There is a killer at large,” said Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and pursue a different angle, and that is the current situation over the last approximately one day.”

Ongoing Concerns

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our public”.

The gunman began shooting inside a classroom in the building on over the weekend, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm handgun, a law enforcement official reported to the Associated Press.

Law enforcement that entered the lodging recovered two handguns and two ammunition clips when the individual was detained, as was reported.

Condition of the Injured

Among those wounded, a single scholar was allowed to go home, mentioned Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in grave but unchanging health, and one remained in critical care, police said on Sunday.

A group leader, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the organization. “Ella was known for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she worked for her branch and peers,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the student's death in a statement. “Our profound condolences go out to Mr Umurzokov’s family, friends, and schoolmates and mourn the loss of his bright future.”
