Cars in German Town Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities mentioned they were notified by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.

Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Police then found multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement report early analysis suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.

A senior official stated the incident made him without words and required to be resolved quickly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of migrant background in five years prior.
