Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
