An extensive extended cruise through the Land Down Under is being halted in the wake of the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was stranded by the vessel on a distant tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the vessel, but parted ways from the group for a break. The liner left without her and went back after some time after the ship staff became aware the passenger was missing.

A large-scale hunt discovered her body the next day.

Officials are looking into the tragedy, together with law enforcement and the official investigator.

Head of the voyage organizer announced that travelers and personnel on the ship were informed that the continuation of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and previous technical problems".

Through an announcement, he further stated that travelers would be given a full refund, and said the organization was working "to arrange the travel back of the passengers via chartered flights".

Authorities also released an updated statement, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Captain" preventing any additional guests from boarding the liner.

The official said that they would inspect the liner in Cairns upon its return.

Chronology of Incidents

The vessel initially left the coastal city on October 24th, and was merely two days into the journey at the time of the 80-year-old's death. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the voyage.

Passengers on board - who typically pay substantial amounts of currency to participate in the cruise - were transported there for a daily excursion with the option of hiking or snorkeling.

Relatives Response

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her family was "surprised and grieved that the liner left Lizard Island after an organised outing without my mother".

Via her announcement, she characterized her parent as an "active octogenarian" who was a participant of a hiking organization.

"Based on limited facts we have been informed, it seems that there was a breakdown of care and common sense," she said.

She continued that she hoped the examination would be able to pinpoint what "the operator should have done that might have preserved Her existence".

"According to reports from the investigators that it was a very hot day, and mother took sick on the mountain ascent," she explained.

"Officials suggested her to return, alone. Then the vessel left, apparently without performing a roll call.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or not long after, mother died, alone."

Operator Response

Via official communication, the CEO confirmed that the company was "working closely with investigators to aid their examination".

He said that the organization was "extremely apologetic that this has occurred" and had provided its total backing to the loved ones.

Maritime Business Standards

The ship caters for up to one hundred twenty guests with forty-six personnel, according to official details. It was purpose-built to enter isolated locations of the nation's coastline and is outfitted with "small boats" - small boats used to take individuals on shore trips.

Events of this nature are rare, and passenger vessels have procedures to document which individuals are embarking or getting off, according to maritime specialists.

"Leaving covertly or [back] on the ship just isn't an choice," a specialist stated.

Vessel operators take these processes with great importance and have "advanced technology in place to avoid such incidents from happening," the expert further stated.

"This appears to be most likely a surprising - and sad - single occurrence."
