He secured the league's Most Valuable Player award in 2021, 2022 and 2024.

Three-time National Basketball Association MVP Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" knee injury when the Denver Nuggets were defeated 147-123 to the Heat.

Jokic injured himself late in the first half following an unintentional coming together with teammate Jones.

His teammate came down on the footwear of Jokic, and he promptly fell to the floor clutching his knee.

The 30-year-old, that leads the league season in rebounds and dimes, recorded a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to incurring the injury.

Jokic will undergo an MRI scan on the following day to determine the severity of the issue.

"Immediately, he understood he was hurt," said Denver head coach David Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone who gets hurt, that's tough to see, especially somebody as important as he is. We will know more on Tuesday."

"We will continue as a team. Of course, right now, I'm more concerned about him personally and the disappointment of going through something like that."
